Transcript: creativity It is shown in the graphic novel style it is written because it talks about strong topics but is shown through imagery instead of the normal text style for novels on these topics 1 Items like the veil are used to show that Marjane doesn't fully understand her culture and religion. This is creative as it shows what she doesn't understand in her culture through an item. 2 Other symbols like the cigarettes show her rebellion and her progression through, first not understanding what was going on, into protesting against the regime, by doing things like buying a hamburger. This is creative as it shows us how the hamburger is a symbol for America and its freedom and how marjane reacts to it. 3 4 The book as a whole makes use of creativity when incorporating more illustrations, the use of simple illustrations with such a powerful story is hardly ever done. Then text but still allows the reader to understand the story. Creativity takes place when creating illustrations. - graphic novel. As a general concept, we can say that its use of creativity is taken more into consideration since it generally transmits a lot with few words and lots of pictures and shows a whole lifestyle experience. 5 Creativity is shown in the colours used in Persepolis as the book only uses black and white without any tones of black. Black and white might be interpreted as a way for the audience to perceive the emotions and feelings of what it was like. Black and white are used as a contrast and generally represent hard, dark situations and not a happy, perfect place. Creativity is then used to provide an insight into those times and situations so that the reader feels closer to the story and events. 6 The overall genre of the book is creative. Making the story be told as an autobiography. 7 8 Another creative factor was transmitting to the readers a message on the importance of receiving education, freedom, and acknowledgment of the different lifestyle inequalities. 9 Language is used to show creativity as Satrapi uses multiple literary devices which include personifications, Symbolism, Metaphors, Analogies, and Flashbacks to broaden the reader's understanding of the situation that Marjane is in. 10 Creativity is specifically used when showing the struggle of women especially their discontent, as women needed to follow certain rules that were oppressive and discriminatory during the 1980s. This is clearly shown in Persepolis, as Marjane learns about women and their punishments, for doing things many people take for granted. This is creative as it shows the experience of the women during the time period and their struggle. 11 In the light novel freedoms such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and overall the freedom of not being afraid is shown through creative means, as we can see how the people of Iran in the 1980s, we're conforming to the norm of wearing veils like Marjane at the beginning of Persepolis. This is creative as we can see both sides of the political opposition and supporters in their belief both in Marjane's household and daily life.
